The International Sports Analytics Conference and Exhibition (ISACE) series (new)

The 1st ISACE, 12 - 13 July 2024, Paris
(one week before summer olympics)

ISACE 2024

Welcome to the International Sports Analytics Conference and Exhibition (ISACE) series

Sports analytics is the application of AI, data science, psychology, and smart devices to improve sports performance, strategy, and decision-making. It involves collecting, processing, and interpreting data from various sources such as video footage, performance metrics, and scouting reports, and using this information to gain insights into player and team performance, prevent injury, and help coaches and team managers to make more informed decisions and optimize their resources to achieve better results.

There are various sports analytics seminars, satellite workshops (associated with major AI and Data Science conferences), and regional conferences (e.g., MIT Sloan Sports Analytics). The vision of this new International Sports Analytics Conference and Exhibition (ISACE) series is to bring leading academics, researchers, coaches, psychologists, managers and technologists together to advance state-of-the-art of sports analytics.

The location is to move around the world's major cities with a timing that is likely to be 1-2 weeks before or after a major sporting event which may form one of the themes of the conference.

The first ISACE (12 - 13 July 2024) will be in Paris (one week before The 2024 Summer Olympics). The conference proceedings will be published in Springer LNCS series. Top papers will be awarded a Best Paper Certificate and a book voucher from Springer-Nature. Selected papers will be invited to submit an extended version to a special issue of the Springer-Nature Computer Science journal.

ParisOlympics

The second ISACE (Sept 2025) will be in Shanghai (one week before the 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters tennis).

AustralianOpen

The third ISACE (May 2026) will be in Vancouver (before the 2026 soccer World Cup). Details will be updated later.

Keynote Speakers

Distinguished Professor Kerrie Mengersen

Bayesian Sport Analytics

Abstract: Bayesian analytics is emerging as a popular paradigm in sport. In addition to providing its own unique challenges, sport presents a microcosym for trialling and extending ideas emerging in other disciplines. In this presentation, I will briefly reflect on the past few decades of Bayesian sport analytics and discuss some of the work being undertaken in our Centre for Data Science in this field. I will focus on three ideas in particular, namely the use of intrinsic dimension for understanding patterns in team plays, increasing trust in citizen science data, and enabling access to siloed data through federated learning. These ideas have been developed in collaboration with valued colleagues listed in the references below. I will also take the opportunity to introduce our national AusiSTAR Hub that aims to increase the profile of sports analytics in Australia, particularly in preparation for the Olympic Games in my home city of Brisbane in 2032.

Bio: Kerrie Mengersen is a Distinguished Professor of Statistics and the Director of the Centre for Data Science at the Queensland University of Technology, Australia. She is an elected member of the Australian Academy of Science and the Australian Academy of the Arts and Sciences. Kerrie’s research interests focus on Bayesian statistics and other methods for modelling complex systems, with applications in health, the environment and sport. She is currently co-leading a major sports analytics program at QUT as well as an AusiSTAR (Australian Sports Tech Analytics and Research) initiative that aims to link entities involved in sports analytics across Australia. Collaborations are welcome!

General Manager Campbell Jamieson

Empowering the Future of Sports: Workforce Requirements in Sport Technology

Abstract: The rapid evolution of technology is transforming the sports industry, creating new opportunities and challenges in equal measure. From advanced data analytics and wearable technology to immersive virtual reality experiences and AI-driven performance enhancement, the convergence of sport and technology redefines how athletes train, compete, and engage with fans. As these innovations continue to accelerate, the demand for a specialized, tech-savvy workforce is more critical than ever. This talk will explore the dynamic landscape of sports technology and the workforce requirements necessary to drive this transformation. Our discussion will cover emerging technologies in sports, skills, competencies, industry collaboration, career opportunities and growth, workforce challenges and solutions, and fostering an innovative workplace culture. As we navigate the future of sports through the lens of technology, understanding and addressing the workforce requirements will be pivotal in harnessing the full potential of these advancements. This keynote will share insights and actionable strategies for industry leaders, HR professionals, educators, and aspiring sports technologists to effectively prepare for and thrive in this rapidly evolving field.

Bio: Campbell Jamieson is a distinguished figure in the world of sports commercialization, renowned for his exceptional contributions to the global cricketing landscape. With a career spanning over two decades, Jamieson has played a pivotal role in transforming the commercial arm of cricket, leaving an indelible mark on the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the broader sports industry. Since stepping down from his role at the ICC, in 2022, Campbell has continued to contribute to the sports industry as a consultant, advisor, and speaker. He also shares his wealth of knowledge and experience in his new role as a faculty member at Deakin University.
